On 24 May 1993,
Eric Muss-Barnes, founder of WyndFeather : Arts & Phantasm, began producing, directing and editing video projects as a hobby. Starting with music videos, for
bands in Cleveland, Ohio, he moved on to doing everything from live concerts to corporate
presentations for companies such as Huntington Banks. When
the hobby grew into a business, Eric called it "Dreamdancer Motion
Pictures."
Four years later, in January of 1997, Eric self-published his first novel,
entitled, "The Gothic Rainbow".
Obviously, a "motion picture" studio does not publish books. Hence, Eric
required a name for a publishing company and "Dubh Sith Ink" was born.
Since he was now doing projects under two different names, the idea
to have a single "umbrella" name came about. Something that could encompass
all creative projects that he might undertake. The name "Windfeather" originated on 15 June 1985 when Eric Muss-Barnes
was just 14 years old - "Windfeather" was the name of a Dungeons & Dragons
character he invented that day.
After doing Dreamdancer for a few years, he thought of changing the spelling
to "Dreamdanser" because "danser" is a French spelling of the word and it sounded
more exotic to him. But, considering that the name was somewhat established,
the kept "Dreamdancer" and instead changed "Windfeather" to "WyndFeather."
The "Arts & Phantasm" portion of the name was inspired by "Light & Magic"
in the name "Industrial Light & Magic", the world-reknown special effects
company. The phrase "Arts & Phantasm" specifically conjures images of
art and creativity,
yet remains ambiguious enough that it can include any possible artform.
So, WyndFeather : Arts & Phantasm was born, out of desiring a name
which encompassed creative projects in any medium - be it video,
film, music, photography and digital art, publishing or anything else - invented as a
parent company over Dubh Sith Ink, Dreamdancer Motion
Pictures, and any names yet to be...
